Third Thursday Links.

Hi! Here are my links that I hope you will find to be edifying, fun, and interesting conversation fodder. Or not.  If you are on my facebook page you have seen some (not all) of these

I posted on this blog page cause I could add multiple links and photos, which you cannot do directly on facebook. I have to say, the editing was pretty painful.

So! Read and learn. Talk.

  1. (Fun/Fluff)  A Cuban Expat Created Mad Magazine's Spy Vs Spy Cartoon.

  2. (Alternative Energy) Fish School us On Wind Power (5 minute read)
Studying turbulence in schools of fish leads to more efficient wind turbines.

  3. (Local) Millenium Tower is tilting and sinking. (5 minutes)
A new skyscraper in San Francisco was built on mud, not bedrock, and is in danger of becoming the next Leaning Tower of Pisa

  4. (Nature)  Humpack Whales Rescue other species from Orcas. (3 minute read)This is really interesting, and the scientists maybe think that helping the other species discourages the Orcas in general, thereby benefitting the humpbacks. However, the attempt to fend off the Orcas in the video linked there does not succeed.  Disney life is a bitch.

  5. (History) (Thanks Brandy Jean Curry) Using Taboos In Culture. Why do Taboos originate? and how do taboos from Different cultures cause conflict?

  6. (History) Bricklayer Bill's Ultra-Marathon of a Life
Story of a Bricklayer that was an early marathoner, and survived a 65 foot fall from a roof. The guy he landed on... not so happy :(

  7. (Science) Do Your Friends Acutally Like You?  Studies show that people that you claim as your friends may not list you as one of theirs... Are you that person???
  8. (Science) Researchers Assess all power plants that convert all of their carbon emissions into salable carbon Nanotubes. This is actually a pretty boring article to read, but I think this type of thing is how we will solve global warming.  SO ITS FREAKING IMPORTANT! read this one!

  9. (Politics: Pro/Con) Ok, here we have two articles that argue opposite sides on an issue.
Claim:  Robert Reich claims that Henry Ford paid his assembly line workers more, leading to them being able to purchase a new Model T. (Higher Wages -> More Sales).

Robert Reich - Higher Wages can save America's Economy

Rebuttal: Paul Robert Gregory Argues that Robert Reich Is Dead Wrong, and that workers got more pay because the Industrial Revolution was in full swing, and increased efficiencies were so great that workers just got more.

Which do you believe, and Why....
